The study aims to help family caregivers of patients with advanced cancer improve their skills in supporting healthcare decisions. These caregivers often assist patients in making important health choices, but they may not always feel prepared. The study uses a method called Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) to test different training components that might help caregivers. These components include training in decision-making and communication, using a guide called the Ottawa Decision Guide, and participating in follow-up calls. The study will involve 352 caregivers who will be randomly assigned to different training combinations. Researchers want to find out which training parts work best to reduce stress and improve quality of life for both caregivers and patients over 24 weeks.
- Study lasts 24 weeks with varying follow-up calls.
- Caregivers must be at least 21 years old and speak English.
- Participants should not have severe mental illnesses or substance abuse issues.
