Study Summary: This study aims to help doctors and nurses in children's hospitals use a new tool called a "Smart Checklist" during a procedure called tracheal intubation. This is when a tube is placed in a child's windpipe to help them breathe in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Smart Checklist is a digital list that helps the medical team by showing important information about the patient, such as any difficulties with their airway. It also gives warnings if there are high risks involved. The goal is to reduce the number of problems, called Adverse Airway Outcomes (AAOs), that happen during this procedure.

More than 20% of seriously ill children who need this procedure face problems. This study will happen in six different hospitals to see if using the checklist helps reduce these problems. The study will also look at how the checklist affects the work and decision-making of medical teams.

  • Who can join: Any child needing intubation in the participating ICUs.
  • Who cannot join: Children only needing a tube change, not a new intubation.
  • Why join: To help improve the safety and success of this important medical procedure for children.
