This study looks at how chaplains (hospital spiritual helpers) can use compassion meditation to help patients who are getting stem cell transplants. A stem cell transplant is a procedure where special blood cells are moved to a patient to help them recover from certain diseases. Compassion meditation is a type of mindfulness exercise that helps you focus your mind and understand your feelings better. It's not religious and helps you feel kinder towards yourself and others.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To see how well chaplain-led compassion meditation works and if patients like it.
Patients are divided into two groups: one group gets special meditation sessions with a chaplain twice a week for two weeks, and the other group gets normal chaplain talks when needed. After the sessions, patients are checked on after 80-100 days and again after 6 months.
- Study lasts up to 6 months with follow-ups.
- Sessions are 30 minutes, twice a week for 2 weeks.
- Must be over 18, speak English, and scheduled for a stem cell transplant.
