Phase N/A

This study is testing a new mobile app designed to help kids and their caregivers prepare for a tonsillectomy, a surgery to remove tonsils (small glands in the throat). The app provides easy-to-understand information and activities to reduce anxiety (feeling very worried), boost confidence, and help caregivers feel more prepared. The study compares two groups: one uses the app and the other gets regular information. The main goal is to see if the app helps kids feel less anxious before surgery. The study also looks at how satisfied caregivers are, how well they handle their child's pain, and how often they call the doctor after surgery.

Key Points:

  • Participation includes using the app before and after surgery.
  • Participants are children aged 5-13 and their caregivers who speak English or Spanish.
  • Participants will fill out surveys on the day of surgery.

This study will involve about 180 children aged 7-13 and possibly 180 younger kids aged 5-6. Families will need a smartphone or tablet to access the app. They must agree to join at least 2 weeks before the surgery date. Participants will be randomly chosen to either use the app or follow the standard procedure.
