This study looks at how eating pecans affects heart health. Pecans are nuts rich in nutrients like polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), fiber, and vitamins, which can help improve heart health. The study will check if eating different amounts of pecans (6%, 13%, or 20% of your daily energy needs) can improve blood fats and hunger levels. Participants will either eat pecans daily for 28 days or stick to their regular diet.
Here's what to expect if you join:
- Your participation will last for 28 days.
- You'll have to attend three short weekly visits and two longer testing visits.
- You'll get a supply of pecans (or not, if you're in the control group) for your diet.
During the study, participants will have regular check-ups, including blood tests and body measurements. This research could help find out if smaller amounts of pecans can improve health and lower the risk of heart disease. Adults between 30 and 75 years old with higher cholesterol or weight are invited to join. There are also several conditions that might exclude someone from participating, like certain health issues or current diets.
