Breast Cancer Screening Study

This study is comparing two ways to check for breast cancer: digital tomosynthesis mammography (TM) and digital mammography (DM). Breast cancer screening is when doctors look for signs of breast cancer before there are any symptoms. TM might be better than DM because it could find cancer earlier and might mean fewer extra tests or treatments.

Key Points:

  • Study Duration: Participants will be screened over 4.5 years and followed up for 3-8 years.
  • Screening Process: Women will have regular mammograms either yearly or every two years, depending on their age and health factors.
  • Eligibility: Women who are not pregnant, planning to get a mammogram, and can handle the tests. No history of breast cancer or recent mammograms.

Participants will be randomly assigned to get either TM or DM. They will have mammograms at different times depending on whether they are before or after menopause. The study will also look at how age, breast density, and family history affect the results. The goal is to find out which method works best for detecting breast cancer and to create a collection of blood and cell samples for future research.
