The ACE Trial is a research study to see if a soy-based supplement called Equol can help keep our arteries flexible and improve memory. Equol acts like plant estrogen and might slow memory problems. This trial is supported by the National Institute on Aging and the FDA, meaning it's safe to try.
Participants are aged 65 to 85, and the study lasts for two years. During this time, participants will take Equol tablets every day and visit the clinic seven times. The visits will include tests like Pulse Wave Velocity to check artery flexibility, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the brain, and memory and thinking tests. Researchers from Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, and Emory University are looking for volunteers.
- Participants take Equol daily for 24 months and visit the clinic 7 times.
- The trial is open to people between 65-85 years old, but not those with certain health issues.
- This study is safe and approved by the FDA.
