This study looks at mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in Veterans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. mTBI is a type of brain injury and PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by a scary event. The study tests a new way to help called non-invasive Vagal Nerve Stimulation (nVNS). This means using gentle signals on a nerve in the neck to see if it helps memory and PTSD symptoms. Researchers will measure changes in memory and the brain using special tests. They will also look at how the body reacts to stress, such as heart rate and inflammation in the blood. This involves wearing devices and having brain scans. Only Veterans with both mTBI and PTSD can join. The study lasts for four days, with follow-up after three months of treatments.
Key Points:
- Four-day study with a follow-up after three months.
- Testing new memory and stress treatments.
- Only for Veterans with mTBI and PTSD.
