DECIDE: Dyads and Families is a study aimed at helping African American families where adult daughters help make healthcare decisions for parents with memory loss. Memory loss issues include Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, which cause forgetfulness and confusion. The study has two main parts. In the first part, daughters and their parents will answer questions through surveys and interviews. These questions will cover topics like health, family, and culture. The second part involves group discussions to develop a new decision-making program for these families.
- Time Commitment: Phase 1 surveys/interviews take 0.67 to 1 hour; Phase 2 sessions last about 1.5 hours each.
- Eligibility: Open to African American adults who are either parents with memory loss or their daughters who provide care.
- Participation: Involves surveys, interviews, and group discussions, all conducted remotely. Data privacy is ensured.
This study aims to improve the quality of life for African American families dealing with dementia by creating a helpful program. Participants will need to have internet access for the remote sessions. If interested, more information can be obtained from Emory University or the study flyer. Participants will help design a program that could make healthcare decisions easier for others in similar situations.
