Enhancing Strength Gains With the Power of the Mind

Boosting strength using mental techniques in a clinical trial.

Recruiting
65-79 years
Female
Phase N/A

This study explores how combining mental effort with elastic band exercises can improve strength and neuromuscular function in women aged 65-79. *Neuromuscular function* refers to how well nerves and muscles work together. Participants are split into three groups: one using elastic bands with mental effort, one with elastic bands only, and a control group that doesn't exercise. Over six weeks, participants will do exercises at home with online guidance. They'll have two sessions in the first week and three weekly sessions afterward, each lasting 45-60 minutes.

Exercises include chair squats, chest presses, and leg presses. Those in the mental effort group will focus on urging their muscles to work as hard as possible. Measurements will be taken before and after to see changes in strength and body composition.

  • Study lasts for 6 weeks with home-based training.
  • Participants need internet and a device with a camera.
  • Participants must be women aged 65-79, non-exercisers for 3 years.
