Parathyroid glands are small glands in your neck that control calcium in the blood. Sometimes they make too much parathormone, causing high calcium levels, which can harm your body. A MIBI scan is used to find these overactive glands, but it doesn't always work. This study looks at a new method using F-18 PSMA to see if it works better before surgery. F-18 PSMA is a special test that uses a small injection to help doctors see the glands better. Patients will undergo both MIBI and F-18 PSMA scans on the same day. The study aims to see if the new method gives better results, which could benefit future patients by allowing less invasive surgeries.
- Length of Study: Both scans will happen on the same day.
- Participation: Participants won’t directly benefit and the study won't affect their treatment.
- Eligibility: Must be 18+, a surgical candidate, and able to stay still for scans.
This study is for research only and will help decide if larger studies should be done. If successful, it could improve future surgeries for patients with hyperactive parathyroid glands.
