Asthma Navigator Intervention to Improve Health Equity in Children
This study focuses on children aged 5 to 16.9 years with asthma who have been admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Asthma is a lung condition that can make it hard to breathe. Despite treatments, nearly half of all children with asthma still have serious episodes every year, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, like Black and Hispanic communities. These children often face challenges like poor housing or limited access to green spaces, which can make their asthma worse. The study will test an "asthma navigator" intervention to help these children manage their asthma better once they leave the PICU. You can be part of the study if you are admitted to the PICU for asthma. If you have conditions like cystic fibrosis (a genetic disease that causes lung problems), immune deficiency (weakened immune system), or were born early (before 35 weeks), you cannot join. Participation involves understanding your asthma care and improving management.
- Duration: Study participation starts at PICU discharge.
- Visits: Follow-up visits may be required.
- Eligibility: Must be admitted to PICU for asthma.
